Sales Floor Training Checklist

The sales floor is the least scripted station in retail, which is exactly why it needs a written standard. Approaching within a reasonable time, knowing the product, keeping the area shoppable, and suggesting things that actually fit are all judgement calls that vary hugely between people.

The checklist (4 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Sales Floor / Service station in the Retail starter set, filed under Sales Floor, and every item here is editable.

  1. 1Approached and offered help within a reasonable time
  2. 2Showed solid product knowledge
  3. 3Zoned, faced, and recovered their area
  4. 4Suggested add-ons that fit the customer's need

Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.

What usually goes wrong

Product knowledge is the item that quietly decides the rest. Someone who does not know the range cannot suggest an add-on that fits, so it comes out as pressure rather than help, and the customer reads it immediately.

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this station: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Sales Floor / Service specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Other retail checklists

The rest of the set, if you are building out the whole floor rather than one position.

Common questions

How do you score something as subjective as sales floor service?

By scoring observable actions rather than attitude. Whether somebody approached within a reasonable time, faced their area, and made a suggestion that matched the need are all things a trainer can watch and agree on. How friendly they seemed is not.

What should be on a sales floor checklist?

The 4 items above cover it: approached and offered help within a reasonable time, showed solid product knowledge, zoned, faced, and recovered their area, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Does this station need critical items?

Not every station has one. Where nothing on the list carries a safety or legal consequence, a passing score plus observation across more than one shift is a reasonable bar on its own. Marking items critical when they are not just makes the flag mean less everywhere else.
