Fitness Coach Training Checklist

Coaching a class or a one-to-one session is a delivery skill on top of a technical one. Starting on time with a plan, demonstrating before asking, scaling to the person in front of you, and correcting form safely are what separate a qualified coach from an effective one.

The checklist (5 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Class / Session Coaching station in the Gym / Fitness studio starter set, filed under Floor, and every item here is editable.

  1. 1Started on time with a clear plan for the session
  2. 2Demonstrated movements before asking for them
  3. 3Scaled the work to each person's level
  4. 4Corrected form safely and specificallyCritical
  5. 5Finished on time and reset the space

Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.

What usually goes wrong

Correcting form safely and specifically is the critical item because a vague correction is worse than none. Telling someone to be careful changes nothing; telling them exactly what to move, and why, is the part that has to be observed.

  • Corrected form safely and specifically

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this station: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Class / Session Coaching specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Common questions

Does a certified coach still need a sign-off?

A certification says they know the material. A sign-off says you have watched them deliver it to your members in your space. They answer different questions, and the second is the one that predicts how a class actually goes.

What should be on a fitness coach checklist?

The 5 items above cover it: started on time with a clear plan for the session, demonstrated movements before asking for them, scaled the work to each person's level, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Which items should count as critical?

On this station, one item is marked critical: corrected form safely and specifically. Missing one means not ready, regardless of the total score, because these are the failures that cannot be corrected after the fact.

Scoring it is the part that lasts
