Grocery Stocking Training Checklist

Stocking is where rotation either happens or quietly does not. Working by date, facing and filling neatly, handling boxes safely, and keeping a steady pace through the aisle are simple to state and easy to skip when the pallet is large and the store is about to open.

The checklist (4 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Stocking / Grocery station in the Grocery / Convenience starter set, filed under Departments, and every item here is editable.

  1. 1Rotated stock by date (FIFO)
  2. 2Faced and filled shelves neatly
  3. 3Followed safe lifting and box-cutter useCritical
  4. 4Worked the aisles at a steady pace

Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.

What usually goes wrong

FIFO is the item that costs you later rather than now. Stocking new product in front is faster, invisible on the night, and shows up as write-offs weeks afterwards, which is why it belongs on a scored list rather than in a briefing.

The items a good total should not outweigh

  • Followed safe lifting and box-cutter use

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this station: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Stocking / Grocery specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Common questions

What should a stocker be signed off on before working alone overnight?

Rotation and safe box-cutter handling at minimum. Both are the items where working unsupervised removes the only thing catching a mistake, and both have consequences that arrive long after the shift ends.

What should be on a grocery stocking checklist?

The 4 items above cover it: rotated stock by date (fifo), faced and filled shelves neatly, followed safe lifting and box-cutter use, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Which items should count as critical?

On this station, one item is marked critical: followed safe lifting and box-cutter use. Missing one means not ready, regardless of the total score, because these are the failures that cannot be corrected after the fact.
