Front End Service Training Checklist

Front-end service is the catch-all station that keeps the entrance working: returns and price checks handled to policy, carts retrieved before they run out, and customers actually walked to what they are looking for rather than pointed at an aisle.

The checklist (3 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Front-End / Service station in the Grocery / Convenience starter set, filed under Front End, and every item here is editable.

  1. 1Handled returns and price checks per policy
  2. 2Retrieved carts and kept the entrance clean
  3. 3Helped customers find products willingly

Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.

What usually goes wrong

Returns and price checks to policy is where this station goes wrong, because it is the point where a friendly person improvises. The improvisation is usually generous, invisible, and repeated once the customer learns who to ask.

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this station: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Front-End / Service specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Other grocery / convenience checklists

The rest of the set, if you are building out the whole floor rather than one position.

Common questions

Why separate front-end service from checkout?

Because they need different judgement. Checkout is throughput and accuracy at a fixed position; front-end is deciding things away from the till. Someone can be excellent at one and unready for the other, and one combined sign-off hides that.

What should be on a front end service checklist?

The 3 items above cover it: handled returns and price checks per policy, retrieved carts and kept the entrance clean, helped customers find products willingly, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Does this station need critical items?

Not every station has one. Where nothing on the list carries a safety or legal consequence, a passing score plus observation across more than one shift is a reasonable bar on its own. Marking items critical when they are not just makes the flag mean less everywhere else.
