Dining Room Training Checklist

The dining room is the station a guest judges you on before tasting anything. It is unglamorous and mostly invisible when done well: tables reset before anyone waits, restrooms checked on a schedule rather than when someone complains, and the drink station kept usable.

The checklist (4 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Dining Room / Lobby station in the Restaurant / QSR starter set, filed under Front of House, and every item here is editable.

  1. 1Kept tables wiped and reset between guests
  2. 2Checked and stocked the restrooms on schedule
  3. 3Engaged guests and offered help proactively
  4. 4Kept trash, floors, and the drink station tidy

Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.

What usually goes wrong

Restrooms on a schedule is the item that separates a real standard from a good intention. Checked when someone remembers means checked when it is already bad, which is the version guests write reviews about.

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this station: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Dining Room / Lobby specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Other restaurant / qsr checklists

The rest of the set, if you are building out the whole floor rather than one position.

Common questions

Does the dining room really need its own checklist?

It needs one more than most stations, because there is no ticket forcing the work to happen. Without a written standard and a scheduled check, the whole station runs on whoever happens to notice, which is not a standard you can staff against.

What should be on a dining room checklist?

The 4 items above cover it: kept tables wiped and reset between guests, checked and stocked the restrooms on schedule, engaged guests and offered help proactively, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Does this station need critical items?

Not every station has one. Where nothing on the list carries a safety or legal consequence, a passing score plus observation across more than one shift is a reasonable bar on its own. Marking items critical when they are not just makes the flag mean less everywhere else.
