Stockroom Training Checklist

The stockroom decides whether the sales floor can actually be filled. Backstock stored where the label says, heavy cartons kept low and the floor filled before the busy period are the difference between having stock and being able to sell it.

The checklist (11 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Stockroom checklist in the Retail starter set, filed under Stockroom, and every item here is editable.

What usually goes wrong

Heavy cartons on low shelves and using the ladder are the critical items, and both get skipped when someone is in a hurry to fill a gap on the floor. They are also the items on this list most likely to end a shift early.

The items a good total should not outweigh

  • Kept heavy cartons on the lower shelves
  • Used the step ladder instead of climbing shelving

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this checklist: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Stockroom specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Checklists that pair with this one

Someone trained on this one most often covers these alongside it, which makes them the sensible second checklist to train.

Common questions

What is the most common stockroom training gap?

Updating the system when stock moves. It feels like admin, it is easy to leave for later, and the result is a product the system says is in the building that nobody can find when a customer asks for it.

What should be on a stockroom checklist?

The 11 items above cover it: stored backstock in its labelled location, kept heavy cartons on the lower shelves, used the step ladder instead of climbing shelving, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Which items should count as critical?

On this checklist, 2 items are marked critical: kept heavy cartons on the lower shelves; used the step ladder instead of climbing shelving. Missing one means not ready, regardless of the total score, because these are the failures that cannot be corrected after the fact.
