Put-Away Training Checklist
The checklist (10 items)
Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Put-away checklist in the Warehouse / Fulfillment starter set, filed under Receiving, and every item here is editable.
- 1Put stock away in the location the system directedMust pass
- 2Scanned the location barcode on every moveMust pass
- 3Scanned the product barcode on every move
- 4Stopped and reported a full or blocked location
- 5Placed heavy items on the lower levels
- 6Kept every load inside the rack's weight limitCritical
- 7Stacked loads square with nothing overhanging the beamCritical
- 8Rotated stock so the oldest date picks first
- 9Cleared stray product out of the aisles
- 10Finished the put-away queue before the end of the shift
Print it, score it on a clipboard, or open it in Sheets. No email required.
What usually goes wrong
Scanning the location barcode is required for a reason that only shows up later. An unscanned put-away looks fine in the moment and turns into a missing pallet the next time somebody goes looking for it.
The items a good total should not outweigh
- Kept every load inside the rack's weight limit
- Stacked loads square with nothing overhanging the beam
When to sign someone off
A workable bar for this checklist: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Put-away specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.
That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.
Checklists that pair with this one
Someone trained on this one most often covers these alongside it, which makes them the sensible second checklist to train.
Common questions
Why does put-away accuracy matter more than pick speed?
A picker can only move as fast as the location data allows. Time saved skipping a scan at put-away gets paid back several times over by pickers searching aisles and by the counts that go hunting for the gap.
What should be on a put-away checklist?
The 10 items above cover it: put stock away in the location the system directed, scanned the location barcode on every move, scanned the product barcode on every move, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.
Which items should count as critical?
On this checklist, 2 items are marked critical: kept every load inside the rack's weight limit; stacked loads square with nothing overhanging the beam. Missing one means not ready, regardless of the total score, because these are the failures that cannot be corrected after the fact.
Scoring it is the part that lasts
Run this Put-away checklist on a tablet between rushes and CrewSharp keeps the rest: who is signed off, when it was last checked, and which item your crew misses most.
