Car Wash Payment Checklist

Payment is the last moment a car can be turned away before it reaches the conveyor. The attendant takes payment, enters the package the customer chose, and asks the questions about racks, loose trim and existing damage that decide whether the car should go in at all.

The checklist (11 items)

Written as observable actions, so two trainers scoring the same shift land in the same place. In CrewSharp this is the Payment checklist in the Car wash / Quick auto starter set, filed under Lot, and every item here is editable.

What usually goes wrong

Asking about loose parts and turning away vehicles the tunnel cannot take are the critical items. A roof rack or a cracked bumper that slips past here becomes a claim at the exit. Entering the right package is the required one, and it fails downstream as an argument the crew cannot fix.

The items a good total should not outweigh

  • Asked about loose parts, racks or damage before sending the car in
  • Turned away vehicles the tunnel cannot take

When to sign someone off

A workable bar for this checklist: no critical items missed, a score above a line you set for Payment specifically rather than one number for the whole building, and observed on more than one shift with at least one of them busy. Then date it, so it can expire.

That last part is the one people skip. A sign-off with no date cannot be re-checked, which means a year later you have a record that says somebody was ready once.

Checklists that pair with this one

Someone trained on this one most often covers these alongside it, which makes them the sensible second checklist to train.

Common questions

Why does the payment attendant tell drivers to stay in neutral?

Because the driver is the most likely cause of a tunnel incident. Braking or steering on the conveyor pushes the car off the rollers, and the payment attendant is the last person who speaks to them before the arches. Saying it every time is cheaper than one collision.

What should be on a car wash payment checklist?

The 11 items above cover it: greeted the driver as the window came down, entered the package the customer chose, scanned the membership tag or plate before charging, and the rest of the list. Keep it in that range. Fewer and a pass proves very little; many more and trainers stop finishing it during a real shift.

Which items should count as critical?

On this checklist, 2 items are marked critical: asked about loose parts, racks or damage before sending the car in; turned away vehicles the tunnel cannot take. Missing one means not ready, regardless of the total score, because these are the failures that cannot be corrected after the fact.
